Every life leaves behind a legacy.

Some leave wealth.

Some leave buildings.

Some leave businesses.

I hope to leave behind something even more enduring — a way of thinking that can strengthen the human spirit, transform adversity into opportunity, and inspire ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things.

This book is not merely the story of my life.

It is the distillation of eighty years of victories and failures, joys and sorrows, faith and struggles, hope and perseverance. Every lesson in these pages has been tested in the classroom of real life. Nothing here is theoretical. It has been lived, challenged, and proven.

If there is one truth that my life’s journey has taught me, it is this: Truth is an absolutely Eternal Reality.

Only truth can prevail over everyone and everything. Eventually, truth always triumphs.

There will be moments in your life when you must choose to stand for what is right rather than for what is popular. If you dedicate yourself to a noble cause, to justice, or to serving humanity, do not expect universal applause. Very often, the opposite will happen.

You may stand alone.

You may be misunderstood, criticized, rejected, or opposed by those whose approval you hoped to receive.

Do not be discouraged.

History has repeatedly shown that nearly every great movement, every great discovery, every great humanitarian effort, and every great spiritual awakening began with one person who refused to surrender to majority opinion.

Never measure truth by counting how many people agree with it.

A thousand voices could be wrong.

One voice, guided by truth, courage, and integrity, can change the course of history.

During the establishment of Gurdwara Sahib in Glen Cove, New York, I experienced this lesson time and time again.

At the most critical meeting with bank officials, every member of the Gurdwara Committee walked out moments before the purchase contract was to be signed. Suddenly, I stood completely alone. Believing that the mission was righteous, I signed the contract in my own name.

The challenges only became greater.

Every official of the City of Glen Cove opposed the project. Once again, I found myself standing alone.

Then came an even greater test — not opposition but temptation.

Several prospective buyers offered me millions of dollars in profit if I would sell the property. It was one of the easiest fortunes I could have made. Yet I declined every offer, because I believed that some missions are too sacred to be traded for money.

Finally, many influential and affluent residents living near the proposed Gurdwara campaigned relentlessly to prevent the project from succeeding.

Looking back today, I understand something I did not fully understand then.

Every obstacle became a blessing.

Every opposition strengthened my faith.

Every difficulty prepared me for a greater purpose.

And every challenge proved to me that when our intentions are pure, our purpose is noble, and our determination never weakens, God opens all doors that any human power may try to close.

Time and again, at precisely the right moment, He sent the right people — His messengers — to guide, encourage, and help me continue forward. That is why I no longer fear opposition: I am certain of an enhanced and unflinching faith.

Throughout my life I have also discovered another profound truth.

Most people reject great ideas not because the ideas are wrong, but because they are unfamiliar. Ignorance has always been far more common than wisdom.

Therefore, never allow popular opinion to become the compass of your life. Let your conscience be your compass.

Let truth be your guide.

Let faith be your strength.

Let service be your purpose.

And let love for humanity become your greatest achievement.

I have also come to believe that the greatest secret to a joyful and harmonious life is found in building relationships based upon kindness, humility, respect, forgiveness, and genuine concern for every human being — regardless of race, religion, nationality, or culture.

These are not merely lofty ideals.

They are practical principles that create stronger families, stronger communities, and a better world.

Everything I have written in this book ultimately leads to one timeless principle — CHARDIKALA.

CHARDIKALA is far more than optimism.

It is the Divine Power that empowers us to remain hopeful when others despair; to remain courageous when others surrender; to remain compassionate when others become bitter; to remain truthful when falsehood appears easier; to continue serving when recognition never comes.

And to continue believing that every obstacle can be transformed into an opportunity and every setback can become the beginning of a greater victory — all owing to God’s Gracious Glance.

If these pages inspire and motivate even one person to live with greater faith, greater courage, greater compassion, and a greater sense of service to humanity, then I would feel grateful to the Almighty for having blessed me with a meaningful eighty years, during which I fulfilled the highest purpose.
